Looking for a come up
Celia and I have been hitting up thrift stores and flea markets almost every weekend this year. This is new for me, and is how I have been building out a new wardrobe beyond the T-shirts and jeans uniform that I have been in for years. (I have become a big fan of Izod button-up shirts. Who knew?)
The Rose Bowl Flea Market is a quintessential Southern California experience, and with only a few visits under my belt, I know I have barely scratched the surface. And I need some new belts. It can be exhausting, especially if the weather isn’t just so, and it feels like it is going to take a while to really feel like we really know the right vendors to spend time with. The Pasadena City College Flea Market is like the Rose Bowl’s younger sibling, and isn’t quite so overwhelming.
Public Estrellas is our favorite thrift shop that we have hit up so far. Great selection, friendly staff, and well organized. The Society of St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store is another favorite, but the lighting is terrible and the layout is sometimes frustrating.
There are a bunch of neighborhoods where we want to head out and explore pockets of thrift and vintage shops.
And we have also been feeding the habit online, too, between eBay and Depop and Thredup and Poshmark. It’s not quite as much fun as pulling something amazing out of a rack in a shop or at a flea market, but it has been a good way to find some more specific items.
